ADAS returns bigger and better
Andrew Marriott, Managing Director of APAC Expo, invites you to attend the 10th anniversary edition of Asian Defense and Security Exhibition 2024 in the Philippines
Now in its fifth iteration, the ADAS series has been growing every year since its first edition, 10 years ago. What will make this anniversary edition stand out?
I am delighted to mark this first milestone event! ADAS has matured over just one decade into one of the region’s leading defense and security shows since the launch in 2014. Building upon the success of every subsequent show, I am proud now to look forward to the next 10 years with a lot of ideas of how we can develop this event further to better serve the defense and security services of the Philippines. I am especially proud of our close relationship with the Philippines Department of National Defense (DND) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) who have entrusted us with every show, and our key partners and stakeholders who remain loyal and supportive. Our anniversary edition will stand out as our largest event ever, with an extended conference program, and a truly memorable gala reception to thank the DND, AFP and our regional VIP delegations as we collectively celebrate the 10th year in unity.
The Philippines is an archipelagic country; how does this inform and contextualize the multiple different forces and services presenting and attending ADAS 2024?
Given the scale and number of islands within the Philippines and its geographic position, it is imperative to continue rebuilding its defense capability with ongoing modernization programs with a focus on its overall islands and littoral water capability. The ongoing defense modernization focuses on all three services, so all visitors will see some of the industry’s largest suppliers showcasing their latest equipment to land, air and naval forces.
As well as defense and security, how are aerial special missions (eg police, search and rescue, helicopter emergency medical services, air ambulance, and aerial firefighting) represented at the exhibition, especially since the geography of the Philippines means that it is more prone to natural disasters than many other countries?
Absolutely, the Philippines endures the highest numbers of natural disasters in the world. The AFP and other relevant agencies are mobilized often to assist in emergency response and provide assistance. This is a key role, so the AFP have recently received much needed heavy-lift helicopters while the Philippine Coast Guard has also received further investment into disaster response. The protection of the Philippine people during these emergencies falls to the AFP and Coast Guard and, as such, companies wishing to supply the first responders should participate in ADAS.
With the Revised Armed Forces of the Philippines Modernization Program (RAFPMP) now in its third phase, how does this affect exhibitors and attendees and encourage them to participate in the exhibition?
Phase 3 of the modernization program is undoubtedly one of the key factors towards the growth of the show. The Philippines is now investing significantly into updating a broad spectrum of its defense capability and, as such, there are many opportunities for international defense suppliers. I would also add that a future sustainability program of localized defense manufacturing is also being undertaken, so there will also be some great opportunities for foreign companies to invest in joint venture production in the Philippines.
Is there anything else about ADAS 2024 that attendees and exhibitors should be aware of?
The Philippines is a wonderful country and we encourage all trade visitors to register online to attend. We look forward to giving you a warm welcome at the milestone event. See you soon!
