The Italian Air Force (IAF) has reported on a flight that was conducted on 26 June to transport 11 injured Libyans to Italy. The humanitarian operation was carried out at the request of the Libyan authorities in order that the patients could receive the care they needed.

An IAF C-130J plane arrived in Misrata, Libya, on the morning of 26 June carrying a specialist medical team from Celio Military Hospital. Shortly after 18:30 hrs, the aircraft and crew returned to Italy, landing at Ciampino Air Base with the injured Libyans.

Italian Minister for Defence Roberta Pinotti and the Defence Chief of Staff Claudio Graziano complimented the armed forces team which contributed to the success of a ‘delicate operation’ that was carried out in close collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This was the third such operation conducted this year. Similar operations took place in January and in May.
